Christening a Boat

In ancient mythology times, it was widely believed that a Roman king of the sea, Neptune, and a Greek ruler of the sea, Poseidon, lived on the floor of the ocean in palaces. These gods of the sea would assure safe passage over the Seven Seas to all sailors who followed their doctrine and respected their protocols.

Performing a proper ceremony to name your new boat is a great way to score the nautical sea gods’ blessing and celebrate your new vessel. Legend has it that, without a christening, a boat will be unlucky.

Once you’ve decided on the perfect name for your yacht, it's important to remove all traces of the previous name in anticipation of the christening ceremony. A christening ceremony consists of saying a few words, toasting the boat’s new name and breaking the pre-scored bottle of bubbly against the boat’s bow.
